Pancho Tacos is a small, homey restaurant located in the DFW, on W Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, Tx. It’s one of the few taco shops in Arlington that stays open as late as 1 am or 3 am on the weekends; Those are hard to find! Offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it is family-friendly and has a complete authentic Mexican food menu. Pancho tacos is not a tex-mex type of place. The primary spoken language in this establishment is Spanish, but don’t let that scare you away if you are an English speaker. They usually have at least one person managing the cash register that speaks and understands English.
This place came recommended to me by my husband. He has lived in the DFW for most of his life. Honestly, I can say each time we have been Pancho Tacos would be busy, even on a late night during the week. Of course, being curious, I checked the online reviews before deciding what I wanted to try from here. My husband has his favorites that he regularly orders, but I was used to other taco shops we had been too. I have noticed I gravitated towards particular tacos when it came to us eating at Mexican taco shops. My first order was not exactly what I had in mind.
My conclusion, this place has tasty carnitas tacos. My husband and I have tried their chicken, fajita, lingua (tongue), and carnitas tacos. The chicken tacos were a little bland, did not have a lot of flavor or heart put into them for my taste. For context, I love Mexican chicken fajita tacos. So that was a bummer for me! The steak fajitas were the next best thing if you have not tried the carnitas tacos. The fajita had way more flavor than the chicken and way more oil on the tortillas; Which is more good than bad in my book! I had only tried the lingua tacos at a few places, so I’m not so sure as to how they are supposed to taste. The lingua tacos are my husband’s favorite type of taco, so he tends to try them out from the places we go if the fajita tacos are on point. He is the one that got me to be a bit more adventurous with the tacos even if they sound daunting.
They have lots of other items people rave about in the reviews online. Check them out and see if anyone has spoken on something you like that would be worth trying to you. What I can vouch for is that the carnitas tacos are bomb. If you do not want to try anything else, you need to try these! It is hard finding good taco shops in the Arlington Texas area. We usually get tacos from Oak Cliff, Dallas, or Cedar Hill. Pancho tacos are not expensive; Although I have seen complaints about the prices going up. The Carnitas are definitely worth the money.
Now listen, although I was not a fan of the other tacos, please still test the waters for your own opinion. While testing the waters, you may surprise yourself, and like some of the other food options! I’ve also tried their piña water; It is the best one I’ve tasted so far, and I’ve tested MANY places in the DFW. It gets real behind piña water lol. So if you are looking for good tacos or just a new Mexican spot, try this place out and let me know your thoughts!
Update:
Since our first few visits here, it became a regular stop for us when we craved tacos or if we were just in the area. We visited plenty of times, and the food for 99% of the time has been consistent. On our last visit, we weren’t too happy. We just assumed they probably had a different person cooking that particular day. The meat was fatty, and the tortillas were hard and overcooked. Overall it did make us pass this place up a few times after, but the tacos here are still great tasting. Just know that even though they are pretty consistent, they do have there random once every blue moon “bad days”; If you ever catch them on a bad day, if you have the moment, try them again for your final opinion!
The reviews online are pretty mixed, and after living here for some time now, I could understand why. Most of these family-owned restaurants we love are not always consistent with how they run their business. The food is good, 90% of the time, and sometimes you show up on a bad day a few times. Similar to fast food, not all places will be perfect each time around. So do not feel bad if you have a great experience all the time, and the one friend you finally told ends up going on a bad day. Just encourage them to give it another chance. Even as time has passed now, lots of their online reviews from old customers feel the same way as well.
