First Pregnancy: Battling Preeclampsia

During my first pregnancy, I encountered the unexpected challenge of developing preeclampsia in the third trimester. It all began with what I thought were harmless Braxton Hicks contractions. Little did I know, they were a sign of something more serious brewing.
At 36 weeks pregnant, I found myself in the emergency room, alone and in pain. My blood pressure was dangerously high, and my doctor decided to induce labor to prevent further complications. Despite the whirlwind of events, my husband arrived just in time for the emergency C-section. Our daughter made her entrance into the world at 5lb 6oz, 18in long, a tiny bundle of joy amidst the chaos.

SN: A Race Against Time (the BTS story of my labor)

My husband was at work when I went into labor, thinking it would be just another trip to the hospital, perhaps another false alarm from Braxton Hicks. Little did I know, this time was different. As my baby’s distress escalated after manually breaking my water, and my contractions intensified, things got crazy.

With my body not dilating fast enough for a natural birth, my doctor swiftly decided on an emergency C-section. I found myself on the operating table, receiving my epidural, Everything moving so Fast I realized my husband still wasn’t there yet.
Amidst the chaos and panic, I begged the doctor to wait for my husband, but he insisted they needed to do the surgery immediately at that moment. In a whirlwind of emotions, The doctor let me make one last phone call to him after begging him over and over to wait for him. I called him to let him know the urgency of the situation. He had to leave during the middle of his shift. He drove as fast as he could from a place that was well over 20 minutes to get to. The doctor told him he had just 15 minutes to reach us & he was going to start, and the thought of his mad dash to the hospital, probably looking crazy running through the labor and delivery department trying to find us. (you know how dad-to-be is in hospitals, lol) fills me with gratitude to this day. I don’t think I ever thanked him for that because He could’ve been in a dangerous situation. We were young, Alejandro, if you read this (which I’m sure you will 🙂 ). Thank you for being here for me and our beautiful girls.

In those tense moments before surgery, I was scared because everyone was panicking about my health, and I was worried about him not making it. I went from anxious to overflooded with happiness when I caught sight of my husband’s face through the hospital door. I cried, His presence transformed the sterile cold hospital room into a sanctuary of love and support. Seconds later, we heard her sweet cry and cried together.

Now, for what followed in the aftermath of my delivery, let’s just say it’s a story for another time. If you’re curious to hear more, drop a message or comment below, and I’ll be sure to share the full saga with you soon!

Second Pregnancy: Navigating a Scheduled C-Section

With my second pregnancy, I opted for a scheduled C-section at 40 weeks. My doctor told me I had to have 2 years in between pregnancies to have a natural birth, so they were pushy about the decision. Looking back, I should’ve fought harder against that Decision. The process started smoothly, but things took a frightening turn during the procedure. My blood pressure skyrocketed to stroke levels, leaving me on the brink of blacking out. It was a near-death experience, but thankfully, I emerged safely to the end of it all with my baby girl in my arms.

SN: A Routine Turned Nightmare ( The BTS Labor Story)

You’d think the second time around would be a breeze, right? Scheduled C-section, everything set, no surprises. Well, life had other plans for us when they put me on the surgery table. As my husband and I arrived at the hospital, ready and on time, we had no idea of the storm about to hit.
I went my whole pregnancy with no issues and ankle and feet swelling at most. So to our surprise, the moment they cut my body open, my body’s blood pressure spiked into stroke levels, my head beaming so hard I thought my brain was trying to explode past my skull, as the room slowly got darker. I hear everyone in panic and the sounds of the machines beeping faster. I started getting scared, but I was in so much pain I couldn’t concentrate. I just see them pushing my husband out of the room and him trying his hardest to not leave my side, with fear in his eyes, not knowing what’s going on, not knowing if me or the baby will be okay or not. I thought I was dying, the room started to sound silent to me and everything was slowly disappearing. I told my peace to god and prayed over my family as I felt myself losing myself. The doctors in that room managed to save me. As I slowly gained consciousness, I cried with gratefulness, acknowledging it wasn’t my time yet.

Recovery: Each Journey Unique

Recovery from both pregnancies was a journey in itself. After my first, it took me two weeks to bounce back, while with my second, I recovered in about a week and a half. I was having a hard time moving around right after with my first, While my second, I was up moving around like it was a piece of cake right after surgery. Every labor and delivery story is different, but one thing remains constant – the incredible strength and resilience of mothers.
