Braxton Hicks Contractions: A Sneaky Surprise
Third trimester’s Holy Mary, Braxton Hicks contractions – those pesky little reminders that labor is on the horizon. As a first-time mom, they can be downright terrifying. Trust me, I’ve been there. It’s hard not to panic when you feel those tightening sensations in your belly, wondering if it’s the real deal. But fear not, mama. While they may be uncomfortable, they’re just your body’s way of preparing for the big day.
Coping Strategies for Braxton Hicks
When those Braxton Hicks contractions hit, a few remedies that helped me ease the discomfort:
- Applying a hot pack or using a heating pad on my lower abdomen
- Finding relief by kneeling on all fours or arching my back
- Curling into a ball on my knees for comfort
- Using a fan to help relax my nerves and body
Navigating Complications: My Personal Experience
Unfortunately, the third trimester can come with its share of complications. In my first pregnancy, I experienced the unexpected challenge of developing preeclampsia. It was a scary and overwhelming experience, especially when my doctor brushed off my concerns about excessive swelling. My body felt like it was being taken over by water, and I struggled with self-consciousness as my appearance changed rapidly. Preeclampsia ultimately led to early labor due to dangerously high blood pressure, but that’s a story for another time.

Every Pregnancy Journey is Unique
With my second baby, the third trimester was a much smoother ride. While I dealt with some swelling and fatigue, I didn’t encounter the same blood pressure issues until labor. It’s a reminder that every pregnancy is different, and each experience is a new adventure.
SN: Even though my two pregnancies were completely different, the Labor of each has tried to claim my life and I fought my hardest and even accepted my peace if I couldn’t pull through. Pregnancy is incredibly one of the hardest things women go through, it is such a blessing and a beautiful curse. (Read more by checking out my book Pregnancy Blessing or Beautiful Curse.). Always Remind each other you are stronger than you know. You are not alone.
