Truth About Maternity Shopping

Shopping and working 4-7 months pregnant was basically bra problems, clothes problems, with a harder time at work with an elephant on your chest. You would think you could get used to your new body but nope that’s a lie! I went through 3 bra sizes at the drop of a dime and considering I worked at a maternity store at the time an had to help pregnant lady’s for a living, you would think I would be able to help myself. Mmm. No! That was harder than I ever imagined. I tried on 6 different bras just to find that only one was comfortable and that my band size is too small to match with my cup size… Ugh. Women problems. They looked good I could admit that but finding a comfortable bra was harder while pregnant just as it is when I wasn’t! But hey! Once you find the right one life isn’t so bad. Finding clothes was hard and easy at the same time. TRUSTTTT ME! Make sure you look at ALL your options before splurging on maternity clothes!

For one, they are EXPENSIVE even with a sale and coupons. Even with my employee discount, I was still blowing more money than I wanted too.

Two, try on some basic stretchy tops in regular sections, believe me, if your the type that doesn’t blow up too much until the end of the second trimester or the start of the third trimester it’ll save you a lot of money. There was a lot of clothes I wish I tried while I was pregnant but I was pretty clueless at the time thinking I was going to get huge. (obviously, I was an ftm at the time)

Three, looking at all your options will keep you from buying a bunch of pieces you like and avoid realizing later once your home that none of what you bought can even make one decent outfit! (Yep I was a sucker for that too).

Shopping is fun; Do not get discouraged when you find something you like and it looks horrible on you. Some pieces look better with a belly and some without a belly; Just be smart in your decisions. Being comfortable is the main goal for your body and feet.

My feet was one thing that was never comfortable at work especially when you have a dress code to follow. I loved my job but working there and being pregnant didn’t match in a maternity store but I was lucky enough to have a great considerate boss. During that time my baby kicked a stretched A LOT. She always managed to get comfy on my sciatica nerve, believe me, ladies it isn’t fun. It would keep me from walking and the pain was horrible. Oh! Things that would make you want maternity leave extra early! Lol

The love we have for our baby’s cloud our minds when it comes to pain. After a while, I stopped working because it was too much on my body and I couldn’t take it anymore. I would pass out while working and I didn’t like working closing shifts on my own anymore. I was becoming a mess.

I left a month early because of health issues dealing with my sugar levels, passing out, and being on my feet for long hours with no energy to spare. I didn’t like having to stay home every day but it felt way better than being at work (wish I listened to my husband sooner!). As the days went by I was slowly missing my job but It wasn’t as bad as it was seeming, keeping yourself occupied was more of an issue than anything else.

Let’s talk? What kind of problems did you run into shopping for maternity clothes? What advice would you give to an ftm from your shopping experience?
