Whether you like your hair short, dyed, long, all natural, relaxed, texlaxed, etc. We all can still achieve healthy hair in any state or style of personal choice. In this series, I will be sharing my tips, secrets, and fails on my journey to healthy hair.
SO HOW DID I GET TO MY HAIR BLOCK?
So in 2015, I became pregnant with my little girl Izzy, she was my first child and as an ftm, I didn’t know what to expect during the pregnancy process. Now at this time, I had pretty long hair it wasn’t the healthiest being I used to dye my hair very often and not by a professional. I would bleach and color it on my own which always came out great, don’t get me wrong lol, but I definitely can’t say it probably wasn’t slightly damaged after a few times. Once I started progressing into my pregnancy, I had dyed my hair jet black, and my hormones had a completely different idea in mind! My pregnancy hormones caused my hair to change colors, and it dried out my hair really really bad. My hair wouldn’t retain moisture at all no matter how much oil, conditioner, or moisturizer I would put in my hair. I felt like I was going through bottles and bottles of coconut oil, almond oil, amla oil, grape seed oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, peppermint oil. The whole nine and I’m sure anyone that uses any of these oils knows they are not CHEAP honey! I was trying everything, I went through so many different products. I was looking like a product junky by the time I made it to my second trimester. One thing that did happen during pregnancy that was true was that my hair was growing FAST but looking at it, definitely didn’t show. I had to cut my hair 3-4 times while pregnant with my little one. My hair just wasn’t taking to the pregnancy well and me being natural my curls didn’t even want to be uniform anymore.
WHAT HAPPENED DIFFERENTLY?
Now even though I had to struggle with my hair throughout my whole pregnancy, I can say after I had her my hair was popping! It grew down to bra strap length after being stagnant at shoulder length those 9 long months. My curls went back to normal, but I did still have some trouble keeping my hair moisturized. I loved my hair again it looked and felt healthy, but that didn’t last for long.
HOW DID I GET BACK TO MY HAIR BLOCK?
A year and a few months after I had my daughter I ended up pregnant with our second little girl. My pregnancy with her was extremely smooth. My hair didn’t act differently or anything, but I decided to dye it burgundy color, I had it done by a professional. The color didn’t come out how I wanted but it was still a very beautiful color. After that decision, my hair went down the drain and LITERALLY. My hair started breaking off into the chunks, and it was falling out from the root! It kept falling out and falling out, I had really thick hair and it went thin and just about nonexistent from bra strap length to above shoulder length. Even with really short one-inch hair patches in different spots in my head. I was so upset I couldn’t believe what was happening. Now, I’m back to the drawing board and back at ground one! So I’m getting my big chop and starting over and I will be sharing my journey with you and anyone on a hair journey of their own please join us and let’s help each other reach our common goals!
